Positive Thinking: Right Approach

Positive Thinking Advice

Positive thinking always makes your mood better, here’s no reason to argue with the fact. What are other positive qualities of such thinking?

What other benefits a human gets while looking onto the world through the glasses of optimism?

Can it help someone to reach success in their job? Facts show that it can.

Researches demonstrate that optimists are more effective innovators. Additionally, scientists from Michigan university provided an experiment and found out that a positive mood lowers the possibility of a heart attack or a stroke! Some emotions can become reasons for various diseases. Tuning yourself onto a positive wave you help your own health become stronger.

But everything has its limits, even your positivity. Overwhelming optimism can turn into a dangerous thing: too much positivity could replace real creative actions. Self-delusion and overconfidence remain only! While covering behind the shield of your optimism you risk to lose an adequate perception of reality and the world around. So, even in this context it is important not to cross the invisible edge.

For instance, optimism is the way to complicate the right decision making. Providing the researches, scientist Tali Sharot asked the participants how they estimate their chances to get in trouble (robbery, incurable disease, etc). After people gave their predictions, researchers told them real statistical numbers about these and other events’ probability.

When humans find out the risk to be lower than they expected, estimations receive corrections in future. But! Once anyone finds out the risk is actually higher than they thought, this information is being IGNORED. For example, if the man who smokes thinks that a chance of dying because of smoking is only 5% and he’s been told that the real chance is 25%, the man will almost certainly ignore the new information, and keep the first estimation in his mind.

So, what does it give us? WE can understand that too optimistic expectations are caused by our natural wish to think something bad is going to happen to the others, not to us. People are eager to overestimate good events and to underestimate bad ones.

We want to believe our decisions to be the best ones. The doctor says to the smoker that smoking, inactive way of life and bad eating are dangerous, but the smoker thinks them to harm the other people, not him.

So, what’s up? The key to success is in keeping the proper balance between your optimism and understanding the real things and goals deeply.

How to keep this balance while trying to think positively about your business or life in general?

There are three pieces of advice:

Get Out Of Your Brain’s Limits, But Not Out Of Its Frame

Optimism is contagious, it is the perfect way to inspire yourself and the others on doing some cool stuff. Yet don’t let optimism to cloud your mind! Continue being practical and pragmatic.

Innovations Start With Displeasures

Positive thinking is good for inspiring yourself, but don’t underestimate the power of displeasure feelings. It often happens in business: total irritation with the way things go at the certain time moment. And this early negativity can serve as the first impulse for you to move forward, to make changes.

Same is for students. Irritation creates the first kick, but it is optimism what can turn your early efforts to a power of creation, to help you make something bigger and better, to study good.

Positive Thinking Means Moving Toward The Goal

That’s too easy: being optimistic and expecting everything good to wait for you behind every corner. Easy learning, good marks and a perfect diploma won’t come to you on their own only because of your positive thinking. Use your optimism as a fuel for your ambitiousness.

It is the true art: to control the positivity and not to allow it deform your perception of the outer reality.

Underestimation of positive thinking is not worth it: there are too many people studying this happening, so you can’t simply ignore it. Remember that optimists are those who don’t concentrate on their mistakes and failures. They go another way, they seek for solutions while analyzing their previous experience.

Optimists charge their internal batteries faster even after they had difficult day at work. Is this not the reason to think the class is actually half full?
