To gain skills fast, a student needs to keep up with certain rules.
Create Appropriate Environment
Environment and your learning abilities are equally important. It is better for you to devote a couple of hours to tune it properly. You are going to lose much more time if you distract constantly.
What are the features of a perfect learning environment if to consider that fact? First of all, the learning environment has to be light and relaxing, but not that much to cause sleepiness.
You need to combine surroundings that are naturally relaxing you and making you learn more deeply to create a proper environment.
Your environment has to motivate and inspire you to reach new perfection levels at the same time. Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? But you only need to pay attention to each separate element to understand that it is real enough.
Low-Stress Level Environment
First, you need to get rid of all distractors in the room. Those might be physical objects, sounds, smells and everything distracting you from your goal. Pay attention to colors: too bright ones (like yellow and red) stimulate thinking, but can increase stress level. Dark colors are not welcome if you want to improve your concentration.
Real and Attractive Learning Environment
Your learning environment has to be pleasant to feel. Perfect colors supporting long-term studying are shades of green and pastel blues. These are calming colors that will help you get inspired and concentrated. Additionally, they stimulate creative thinking.
How to create reality? If you find inspiration in natural miracles of Earth, hang pictures, panoramas, and placards with nature on your walls. You are limited only by your imagination here.
Environment Correlating with Your Personal Style of Studying
People memorize 20% of what they read, 30% of what they hear, 40% of what they see, 50% of what they hear and 60% of what they do.
The environment is to be built the way it could naturally improve your ability to perceive knowledge while you use your personal studying style. This supposes you to use space and instruments effectively when organizing your environment in ways able to make your learning more interesting and pleasant.
Air, Light, and Water in the Environment
Air to breathe, light to get and water to consume are essentially important for the organism. Nobody can exist and function without having this basis.
If there are not enough of these three ingredients in your learning environment, your performance is most likely to decrease.
There is to be a high-quality air. Open the window, this will help you improve your brain’s activity.
Light is another important component of the effective learning. In fact, your organism always looks for natural sunlight. If your room is dull and dark, this will increase your tiredness and laziness. So, keep an eye on having enough natural light.
And finally, do not strike your body with caffeine or energy drinks while studying. Drink clean and fresh water.
Devote some time to organize your space on the way to improve your performance. Unorganized environment makes the learning process more complicated.
Moreover, it means that you will spend valuable time to find things that have been accidentally lost or thrown away. This is the case when procrastination comes behind your back while remaining sneaky.
Clean your table from unnecessary things and buy everything you might need for a current task: a vocabulary, office goods, and additional materials. Make sure every instrument required for studying is at your arm’s length.
Minimum of Distractors
You need to deny all side noises and distracting factors. If it is possible, close the door so nobody could disturb you. Warn your family members or dorm neighbors that you are going to be busy.
It is impossible to get rid of certain noise, so put on headphones and turn on the music with no words. It will help you filter everything unnecessary by creating a “shield” between wanted and unwanted sounds.
Feed Your Brain and Body
There can be no doubts in that your health and wealth are closely connected to your thoughts. So, now we are going to touch the topic of food and stimulators that direct and transform human’s thinking models. Exercises and their use for the brain are going to be discussed, too.
You need to be conscious and to stop consuming products and drinks that make you feel yourself dull and can lower your concentration. Caffeine, sweets, alcoholic drinks won’t help you; they can even act in the opposite way. Despite the fact that caffeine has a stimulating effect at first, it has a suppressive one after and drains water out of your body.
Do not forget about physical exercises, too, as there is the direct connection between the activity of your body and mind. Morning exercise is obligatory. If you want to get the greatest possible effect from your studying, start running and swimming regularly.
And the last: exercises for a brain. You need to train it every day so it could catch up with complicated rules, theories and practical activities. There are many logical and creative games online, and they can become perfect brain fitness instruments for you.
Ask Many Questions
People often feel confused when they need to ask a question in public. Moreover, they take this bad habit with them into their educational process.
It does not matter if you study at the high school, at the university, at home in online mode: always ask questions. This approach is very useful because you’ll memorize the answer better than just the “consumed” information. They say, people used to have a better memory in the past, as they had to look for answers in thick vocabularies and encyclopedias. Nobody wanted to handle those “bricks” twice to get one thing.
Start a diary where you can write all your questions. When there appear hundreds of them, invite a friend who knows the topic for a dinner, and get a hundred answers at a time. Think about that: you are going to close one hundred blind spots in a few hours.
Do not approach studying passively, stay active all the time.
Get into Studying State of Mind
Changing one’s state of mind is a skill, too. And this skill requires practice. It is extremely difficult for you to make yourself study if you’d just watched a horror movie or had a nice dinner. But everything’s possible: if you put right triggers, you can turn yourself into a perfect studying machine.
You should start from goals. Nothing better than SMART method has been thought out yet for this case. Goals have to be: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound. Additionally, you can try out visualization: close your eyes and imagine that you’ve studied a thing already.
Relax and calm down after that. You can enter a new state of mind only after the previous one is gone. Nothing is better than a good rest here. Get rid of stress, as stress is the enemy of memory.
